Balderschwang
You reach Balderschwang via Germany’s highest pass road, the Riedbergpass with 1420 meters, or – in
case of snow – better via Oberstaufen – Hittisau / Vorarlberg. Mountaineers feel near to heaven
here. For lovers of nature, paradise lies in Balderschwang. The epithet “Bavarian Siberia” is not
only due to icy temperatures, but above all to the snow guarantee in winter, lasting for five
months in Balderschwang – a pleasure for all skiers.
In Balderschwang, “quality instead of quantity” is the motto. You can let yourself be spoilt in
wellness hotels from A like Ayurveda to Z like Zither (Zabaglione) (...). There are no hotel
complexes, but guests, above all families with children, are best accommodated – be it in the
four-star house to the mountain hut, the comfortable holiday apartment to the holiday farm. Also
youth groups and school classes are welcome. Boundless hiking and summit pleasures, marvellous
views, original scenery. Everything is possible – walking, taking a rest, running, biking, taking
off, gliding. On foot in the valley and on the mountains, by bike upwards and downwards. Discover a
waterfall, experience a forest and nature learning path, follow the cheese path to seven mountain
pastures – including a stop off, of course – and a cosy horse-carriage ride. Skating or football,
bowling in the evening. And golf on six courses within a radius of 25 km. Here, summer is full of
holiday pleasures.
Many hosts are equipped with baby outfits, play rooms and private playground – well prepared for
their small guests. Moreover, there is a stroking zoo, a barbecue site, a large playground for
children and – for the very brave – a mountain stream for bathing. The programme for children
“Hörni-Camp” pitches up its tents in the neighbouring Hörnerdörfer from the end of June to the
beginning of September.
Nature and agriculture determine rhythm and life here. Mountain cheese from the mountain pastures,
butter and eggs in the rural shop, crowned cows during driving down the cattle from their Alpine
summer pastures and brass music on the occasion of a wedding – these are the cultural highlights of
the small mountain village. And that is alright.
Holidays in white, with much snow and little ado, at favourable prices! Winter in Balderschwang
guarantees snow and definitely no avalanches from December to April, cosy but many-sided, easy to
grasp but nevertheless very active. A 4-chair-lift as well as a 2-chair-lift and nine T-bar lifts
cover 35 km of ski-runs with family descents and FIS race tracks, stopping off not excluded.
Artificial snow if necessary. Skiers from the age of four on gather in the ski-school for children
in a separate area. A magical carpet and an electrical turnstile offer an optimum assistance for
the “dwarfs”. And the even younger ones, starting from “nappy-age” on, can be handed over to the
care of the minders. Ski-, snowboard- and cross-country-schools turn beginners into professionals.
From any accommodation, the entry to the course, which even crosses the border to Vorarlberg /
Austria (“Allgäuer Latschenkiefer-Grenzlandloipe”), is not further away than 100 meters. Several
toboggan-runs, length between 200 and 1500 meters, and rides with the horse-carriage also belong to
the relaxing winter pleasures; equally do guided snow-shoe hiking tours through untouched nature.
The near skiing area Grasgehren guarantees even more snow and skiing pleasures for all demands:
seven lifts, great ski-runs, artificial snow if necessary.
